Xander is around 12 months old, give or take a month.  Why don’t we know his exact age?  This sweet boy was a stray.  He was found wandering around just before Thanksgiving.  When he was found, he was horribly scared.  One of the shelter workers recognized it as just fear though and was determined to help him find a rescue.  He was frightened of every person he saw, but with another dog, he began to feel at ease.  His new human friend worked with him for more than a month to try to get him to feel more secure, and when he began to recognize her as a friend, she called us to see if we could help.  He joined Coastal very soon after we received the call.

Xander is still nervous in new situations, but he has made so many new friends in the rescue that he knows people are good now.  He bonds very quickly to the people he trusts.  He loves other dogs, but when he first came to us he wanted to play but backed away when he thought they were being too rough.  Now his best buddy to play with is Zane, who he runs with and chases with abandon.  When he first came to us, he was afraid of the leash, but he soon learned that the leash with a friend attached to the other end meant that he got to go explore new things in the bigger world.  When he came to us, he was nervous and afraid of being in the strange kennel.  He still doesn’t like to be in the kennel and would love to have a forever home soon.

At around a year old, he is still a puppy.  He loves to be petted and will roll over for belly rubs.  If you squat down, he will sit almost in your lap, as though he knows he is safe if he could just become one with his new friend.   We don’t know if Xander has ever been around children.  He needs a family with older, dog savvy children and parents, and a home where is not left alone for long periods.  He would love to have another playful canine companion.

This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis.
