Archie was with a wonderful Mom until he was about 8 months old, he was loved and cared for.  Mom got very ill and was hospitalized unexpectedly.  Mom asked her son to take care of Archie because  she was advised that she would be in the hospital a good 3 weeks. Her neighbor called her (while in the hospital) 3 weeks in and told her that her dog was howling at night, and would hear her son when he came to check once in great while screaming at the dog.  Come to find out, quite unfortunately, her son brought a bag of food to the house ,left the bag open, left Archie on his own with the back door open and the toilet bowl to drink from, no lights when it got dark, no toys . . . . Archie had to figure life out as a baby, and any time Mom’s son came to bring another bag of food, what Archie got was a whole lot of screams from him. Mom was still in the hospital, and was going to stay indefinitely so she asked a friend to take Archie to the shelter as she could not care for her baby boy (and was furious at the son needless to say).

When we met Archie at the shelter, he was very very shy, and if he could crawl into a ball and hide he would. Once in the car, within a few minutes, right about the time that the transporter got to a drive thru, he perked up, had both paws on the console and wasn’t afraid of much.  Thankfully a foster came to take him home that day, they have a wonderful happy and confident male named Teddy, Teddy and Archie became friends the second Archie got out of the car door at home, it was game on of chasing.  Some notes from Archie’s foster.

– Archie is extremely sweet and bonds very quickly.

– Once he attaches to you, he doesn’t want to let you out of his sight. He is always waiting outside the bathroom door for me.

– He likes to use his voice, especially towards unfamiliar people.

– He’s a good eater if his “person” is there, otherwise he’s not interested.

– Archie shows a caution towards men.

– He really enjoys a tennis ball! Sometimes he likes playing fetch, and sometimes he just likes to throw it around himself and watch it bounce.

– He does not pull at all on the leash, but lacks a bit of direction and will constantly cris-cross and stop in front of you on walks

– He has yet to relieve himself on a walk, he’s only comfortable in our yard.

-He is not crate trained, not a crate dog.

-He usually sleeps under the bed (where Teddy sleeps) or he’ll sneak into the closet and curl up in there .

Archie needs a home that has other very playful dogs (and dogs that can be his own emotional support team), he needs  parents that are patient with him and understand that he is shy and it will take much longer than usual to get him to trust the world again.  Archie is 10 months old now. Children and a very busy household where there is a lot of foot traffic is NOT a home we can consider for Archie.
